Lights Out Goaltending was born out of a passion for the game, and for coaching. Founded in 2024, by Leland Lima, to provide young goaltenders with the same high-quality coaching and attention he was fortunate to receive through Joe Bertagna's teaching and mentoring since he was a Squirt.
"A handful of students stood out in my 50 years of running summer goalie camps and Leland Lima is one of them. He had a passion for the position from the start and in recent years, he displayed a maturity that was unique. This led me to hiring him to work with younger goalies even while he was also attending the camp as a student still working to get better. I am happy to see him launch his own camp and I expect he will bring the same passion to teaching that he has brought to playing. I consider this a sort of "passing of the torch" to Leland as I move on from summer coaching." - Joe Bertagna
Lights Out Goaltending will focus on the fundamentals of goaltending constantly working on improving young goaltenders: skating, positioning, coordination, puck-handling, and overall knowledge of the game. All at an affordable price. We believe, no matter the age, experience, or size of your goalie, every goalie deserves a chance. We believe every goalie can reach their full potential and their goals through hard work and dedication to the game and position. I believe the most important aspect of any athlete, at any position, is being coachable, and at Lights Out Goaltending, your goalie receives coaching from some of the most experienced and knowledgeable goaltending coaches in the game. We hope that you allow our school to be apart of your goalie’s journey, and have your goalie be apart of ours!

Leland lives and breathes hockey, his understanding of the game and for coaching is beyond his years. Leland has played as a goalie full time since squirts with Cape Ann Youth Hockey. He played with the New England Predators for his Pee Wee years. He was with the North Suburban Wings through Midgets.
In high school, Leland was a student athlete, who excelled on the ice and in academics as a member of the National Honor Society, while playing hockey at a St. John's Preparatory School. Community service is also a big part of Leland's life. He has served many different organizations through out the North Shore of Massachusetts. He has created and ran a Back to School Backpack Fundraiser for the YMCA on Cape Ann for three summers. Over the three summers the drive has filled 175 backpacks.
Leland has coached across various organizations and levels across the last few years. He has worked with programs such as Cape Ann Youth Hockey (Town), the Valley Junior Warriors (Club), Masco High School Girls Varsity Hockey (MIAA), the Pingree School Girls Varsity Hockey (NEPSAC), and Stonehill College Womens Ice Hockey (NCAA D1).
Currently, Leland works with the NCAA Division 1 Women’s Ice Hockey team at Stonehill College. In his role he works alongside the coaching staff and with the goaltenders. Leland is in charge of pre-scout reports on opposing team goaltenders, as well as live tagging video during games.

"As a father of a young goaltender, I can't express how thrilled we were with Lights Out Goaltending's inaugural week-long camp. What started as a simple quest for extra pre-season ice time transformed into an extraordinary experience for our daughter. From day one, the phenomenal staff crafted a fun yet challenging environment for goalies of all ages. Leland's exceptional organization and ability to continuously raise the bar each day were truly impressive. By week's end, our daughter had not only worked with incredible new coaches but also gained valuable skills, confidence, and excitement for the upcoming season. The camp exceeded all expectations, and I wholeheartedly recommend Leland and Lights Out Goaltending to any parent seeking an outstanding goalie experience for their child." -Richard Cunha, father of Pee Wee goalie, Islanders Hockey Club
"Leland made a connection with Cal at Bertagna's camp last year that was unique. Goalies don't always get that kind of instruction in regular season practice and it has made a world of difference in both his playing and in his excitement about practice. Leland's instructions were specific to where Cal was, where he needed work, and it has really helped him to have the great season he's having this year!" - Janet Powers, mom of Pee Wee goalie, Cape Ann
"As goalie parents know, there are a lot of peaks and valleys with the position. Leland's enthusiasm and positivity feeds right over to his players. He does an excellent job identifying what your child needs to work on and more importantly demonstrating and explaining it in a way to them, that makes sense to them. Leland excels at connecting with his goalies, having them work hard while having fun!" - Dan Lee, dad of Pee Wee goalie and Director of Girls Hockey at Cape Ann Youth Hockey
